Sycamore Academy staff and pupils do various community outreach projects throughout the year and work alongside Sycamore Church in certain functions and activities. Fun events are planned throughout the year;
An annual movie night where the pupils, their families and children from the surrounding suburbs, are invited to attend. Gourmet hotdogs, juice and popcorn are available and a fun time is had by all.
A bingoevening for all pupils, family and friends, including the church community is held, each year. Prizes are donated or sponsored towards the evening and food is sold to raise funds for future projects.
Our school supports the St. Martin Children’s Home Heroes Fund Raising Day, and our pupils gladly contribute to this much needed cause.
Father’s and Mother’s Day is celebrated with style at Sycamore Academy, with a +/- 1 hour service, honouring these respective parent bodies at our school.
Another project that is supported by Sycamore Church is the distribution of food parcels and meals to the needy in the community and many people are helped, on a weekly and monthly basis.
Once a year, Sycamore Academy and its various feeder Pre-Schools band together to support the Durban S.P.C.A. In 2022, the children of these schools made a tremendous effort and +/- 2 tonnes of dog/cat food was delivered to this much admired animal support society.
At the end of every year, Sycamore Church holds a Christmas Carol evening and invites the community to attend the service. Following this well attended evening, every child is given a Christmas goodie box and juice. We also support the local Carols by Candelight evening, which is held at various venues in the Glenwood suburb.
In summary, Sycamore Academy and Church is fully committed to its community outreach programme and has a track record which undoubtedly supports this philosophy.
